We Need Your Help
Maine Youth leadership is 501(c)(3) tax exempt non profit org so your donation is tax deductible. About 98% of our spending goes directly to programs that benefit the students (the other 2% is for administration and filing fees to be a tax exempt organization) Your donation directly helps Maine kids. It costs about $250 to sponsor one student for our 4-day seminar. That goes to meals and lodging and program supplies for the student over the four days.
Our annual Leadership Seminar requires about 80 individuals (counselors, junior counselors, panelists, administration help, speakers, etc.) to staff the event. Everyone involved donates their time – no one gets paid a penny. We have no paid speakers at our event. Maine Youth Leadership is proud to be 100% run by volunteers we have no paid staff.

Get Involved — Become a Volunteer
Maine Youth Leadership is proud to be an all-volunteer organization. We are constantly looking for dedicated volunteers to join our effort. Some of the areas where volunteers are needed include:
Recruitment Committee: (early fall to late spring). Help send out nomination materials in early fall and make follow up calls to Maine High School guidance counselors and principals to nominate a student for the spring leadership seminar.
Program Committee: (early fall to late spring) Work with the program committee to develop the content of the leadership seminar, finding speakers, panelists and hands-on volunteer opportunities.
Public Relations Committee: (year-round) work with communications committee to develop marketing materials, update the web site and act on public relations opportunities to further the awareness of MYL.
Fundraising Committee: (year-round) work with the fundraising committee to identify and contact donors to support MYL and the leadership seminar.
Seminar Steering Committee: (spring) each year we need close to 40 staff to help power our leadership seminar. Our Seminar is led by two co-chairs, an operations support team, 10-12 senior facilitators and roughly 20 junior counselors (students who have previously attended the seminar). Other staff spots for the seminar include a film crew, a parents program presenter, and a nondenominational service leader.
Board of Directors: (year-round) Our Board of Directors meets at 5 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month in South Portland. The Board is responsible for the direction of the organization and oversees all aspects of MYL activities (seminar, fundraising, development, etc).
We welcome students and adults to participate on any of our active committees. If you have an interest, please contact our Board President Tom Renehan at 207-221-3196 or by email at info@maineyouthleadership.org
