About Esther

After graduating from high school in 2008, I enrolled at Quinnipiac University with the double majors of Sociology and Political Science. I graduated from QU in 2012 and moved to New Orleans as part of the Teach for America corps. I taught elementary school for three years before returning to Maine. Back in Maine, I was a graduate student at the University of Southern Maine. I also joined the MYL board of directors when I returned to Maine. I graduated from USM in 2017 with a Masters of Social Work and 2018 with a Masters of Policy, Planning, and Management. I started working at Maine People’s Alliance in 2017 as a Community Organizer. In my spare time, I hang out with my husband Vitor and our pets - Barney the dog and Maya the cat. We enjoy going to trivia, playing video games, and perusing craft fairs.

I wanted to give back to an organization that had impacted my sophomore year of high school, so when I returned to Maine after living in Louisiana I reached out to existing board members. I love working with youth and helping with youth development so having the opportunity to engage directly with high school sophomores at the MYL seminar and through the Youth Advisory Board has been such a blessing. I appreciate having the opportunity to lift up the voices of MYL alumni through my time on various board committees.
