About Maria
Maria loved MYL so much that she went back as a JC in 2009 and 2010. After high school, she moved Orono to attend the University of Maine. She graduated in the spring of 2014 with Honors and a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a minor in Psychology. (She was an AC at MYL for one year while attending college.)
Maria has worked in the insurance industry since the fall of 2014 and currently works at Crum & Forster. She got involved with the board when her former employer gave a charitable donation to MYL in 2016, and she met with some of MYL’s board members to distribute the check. She has Tom Renehan to thank for inviting her to attend a board meeting and nominating her to join. She attended the seminar as a Senior Facilitator in 2019 and notes that it was one of her most fulfilling experiences to date.
Maria is currently the Board Secretary and serves on the PR/Marketing, Alumni, and Policy/Wellness committees. Maria is so thankful for MYL and loves that she can continue to help this organization as it grows.
Maria currently lives in Saco, Maine with her husband, their cat (Stevie), and their corgi (Rosie). They moved from Scarborough, Maine after buying their first home together in early 2021, and they really love everything that Southern Maine has to offer.
What does MYL mean to you? Why join the board?
MYL was foundational to my personal and professional journey. As a sophomore attending the seminar from a small Down East high school, MYL provided me with a strong sense of community, confidence-building opportunities, and invaluable lessons in leadership and volunteerism. I have been truly honored to volunteer over the years as Junior Counselor, Alumni Consultant, and Senior Facilitator. I joined the board because I want to see MYL touch the lives of young Maine leaders for as long as possible. I love this organization and the positive impact it has had for decades.
What do you like to do outside of MYL?
Nature walks and leisurely hikes - but kayaking is awesome too!
Which unconventional animal do you wish you could have as a pet?
I'd go to Paris! I've always wanted to see the architecture and visit the Louvre. (Fun fact: I was there once on a layover but I never got to leave the airport!)

What is your favorite Maine thing?
Anything with Mint & Chocolate but a close second is anything with Chocolate & Peanut Butter
